What they have found is that there is a part of our body’s immune system that could potentially be used and harnessed to treat all forms of cancer. For those unfamiliar, our body’s immune system helps our bodies fight off infections, but it can also attack cancerous cells. The researchers discovered that there was a T-cell inside the blood of people that could attack a wide range of cancers.
This means that in the future, by harnessing this T-cell, there could be a one-size-fits-all treatment for cancer, instead of having to tailor every treatment differently according to the patient. This includes lung, skin, blood, colon, breast, bone, prostate, ovarian, kidney, and cervical cancer cells.
This treatment was also found to leave non-cancerous tissues untouched, which is the important thing. That being said, before we get too excited, the research is still in the early stages and has yet to be tested on patients, but based on what they have found, it showed a lot of promised.
