If you’re looking to equip your home with a smart lock, there are plenty of options to choose from, and Kwikset is tossing their name into the ring with their latest offering in the form of the Halo Touch. This is part of the company’s Halo series of smart locks, but with the main difference is that the Halo Touch will support fingerprint unlocking.
According to Kwikset, the Halo Touch will support the storage of up to 100 fingerprints, or 50 users. This means that you can essentially give out your home’s key to a bunch of friends and family members who can easily let themselves into your home simply by scanning their fingerprint.
The Halo Touch will work over the user’s existing WiFi network and according to Kwikset, the lock will be easy to install and can be done by yourself if you’re so inclined and if you’d rather not hire a locksmith. Kwikset also notes that the fingerprints are all stored in the lock itself, instead of the cloud.
This means that in the event Kwikset’s cloud gets hacked, hackers will not be able to get their hands on your fingerprints. As expected with most smart devices these days, the Halo Touch will also play nicely with digital assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.
