2020 iPhones And iPads Could Come With mmWave 5G Technology

It is widely believed that this year could see Apple introduce 5G to the iPhone, but it might not necessarily be the 5G support we might be hoping for. According to the latest rumors, it seems that Apple could be adopting mmWave 5G technology for its 2020 iPhones and possibly the iPad Pros as well.

For those who are unfamiliar, at the moment there exists two different types of 5G technology – mmWave and sub-6 (also known as mid-band). Both are 5G technologies, but the main difference is in their coverage. With mmWave 5G technology, devices will in theory be able to achieve speeds of up to 1Gbps.

However, the problem with mmWave is its coverage, where it might not be as wide-reaching compared to sub-6. At the moment, AT&T is utilizing mmWave while other carriers such as Sprint have used sub-6 with 2.5Ghz bands. It is believed that over time, mmWave will eventually be replaced as 5G becomes more commonly used.

That being said, it is unclear if Apple might be utilizing both technologies or if they might start out with mmWave first, but since nothing is confirmed, it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now. Apple’s 2020 iPhones are expected to be released in the later part of the year, so we should have more details then.
