Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. franchise is one of the more popular fighting games in gaming history. It has spawned multiple titles and variants over the years, and in more recent times, Nintendo released Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the latest title in the franchise that also possibly has its biggest roster ever.
In fact, according to the NPD, it has been revealed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the best-selling fighting game in US history. That’s quite an impressive title to hold, especially when you consider the fact that there are a ton of other fighting games out there that are also pretty popular, like Street Fighter, Tekken, King of Fighters, and so on.
That being said, the party nature of the game that allows multiple players to play with each other on the same console probably helps. The nature of the game’s design also makes it easy for casual players to get into the game, and the free-for-all style also means that sometimes even newbies can get lucky shots in, making it fun for players who might not have much experience with it.
The game has since sold more than 15.71 million copies to date and has since surpassed Capcom’s Street Fighter II which has sold 15.5 million copies in its lifetime.
