For those unfamiliar, back in 2018, Amazon acquired Ring. In case you did not know, Ring is a company that makes smart video doorbells, but the company has also since branched into creating security cameras. However, could the company be planning on expanding their portfolio with more smart home devices?
It certainly feels that way, or at least that’s according to a tweet by David Zatz in which he has stumbled across a patent filed by the company that seems to describe a smart lightbulb. As you can see in the tweet below, the branding included in the patent clearly makes this a Ring design. However, its design suggests that this might not be your typical lightbulb.
Instead of a lightbulb designed for home use, like in your living room or desk, this design suggests that it could be of a floodlight design that could be used to complement the company’s other products. For example, it could be useful in helping illuminate people at your door when they ring your doorbell.
Hmmm Ring PAR35 "smart" lightbulb. Outdoor lighting line accessory? Ring Alarm accessory? Both? Neither? :) pic.twitter.com/zGeCiVK0qR

It could also be used with the Ring security cameras to show who might have tripped an alert on the system. That being said, with all patents, it’s hard to say if and when the product will become a reality. However, CES 2020 is just around the corner so maybe the company will have more to share then.
