This comes in the form of the Minecraft Bedrock Edition which Microsoft is finally rolling out to the PS4. One of the main changes in the Bedrock Edition is support for cross-play, meaning that gamers on the PS4 will be able to play with gamers on the PC, Xbox, mobile, and the Nintendo Switch.
In a statement made to The Verge, Minecraft studio head Helen Chiang was quoted as saying, “One of Minecraft’s core missions is to connect players across devices and provide the best experience regardless of platform. We continue to fulfill that mission here today by welcoming PS4 players to Minecraft on Bedrock and growing our cross-platform multiplayer community.”
Sony has been one of the holdouts when it came to cross-play support. However, it was largely thanks to the popularity and pull that Epic’s Fortnite had and the backlash that Sony received that they started to embrace it.
