Apple’s Bug Bounty Program Is Now Open To Everyone

We imagine that many huge tech companies put their products through a multitude of tests before deciding that it is good enough to be released to the masses. However, more often than not, we’ve seen many product launches where bugs are discovered that were not caught during the beta testing.

This is why bug bounty programs exist, where companies reward the public for spotting bugs that they might have missed. Now it looks like Apple’s own bug bounty program has been opened up to everyone. Previously, the company did have a bug bounty program but it was an invite-only program.

This decision was criticized as it suggested that those who weren’t invited might then be tempted to sell their discovery to governments and other companies who might leverage these bugs to try and break into Apple’s products and software. Now that the program is open to all, hopefully this will no longer be the case, especially since Apple is offering rewards of up to $1 million in rewards.

“We make it a priority to resolve confirmed issues as quickly as possible in order to best protect customers.
