Amazon’s smallest Echo speaker is the Echo Dot. While it is tiny, the downside to the speaker is that it still requires users plug it into a wall outlet in order to keep it powered. This does reduce its portability a bit, but it seems that Amazon has decided to address that by launching a portable version of the Echo speaker powered by batteries.
Unfortunately, if you were hoping to get your hands on the speaker, it seems that this Echo speaker has been launched for the Indian market. This means that those of us living stateside will not be able to get our hands on it, at least for now. It does seem like a pity as it is a very good idea and one that we wonder was not launched much earlier.
According to Amazon, the speaker will feature a 4,800mAh battery and will last up to 10 hours on a single charge. Apart from that, it seems like your typical Echo speaker that will come with Alexa built into it, except with the main difference being that this is a much more portable device.

Feedback from our Indian customers that they wanted to carry around their Echo devices was the inspiration behind the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker, says Miriam Daniel (VP, Alexa Devices, @amazon) #JustAsk @AmazonEchoIndia pic.twitter.com/4ckxZapaXg— Amazon India News (@AmazonNews_IN) December 4, 2019
Portability also seems to come at a price because it is expected to retail for around $70 after conversion. This is versus the Echo Dot which is usually priced at $50. Hopefully Amazon realizes what a great idea this speaker is and bring it stateside in the near future.
