2020 iPhones Could Feature A Sensor-Shift Image Stabilized Camera System

Some of Apple’s iPhone models come with image stabilization built into the cameras. For those unfamiliar, this means that the iPhone’s camera can compensate for any minor movements in your hands while you are taking a photo or video, resulting in images that might be otherwise affected by motion blur, and videos that might end up being too shaky to be used.

Now according to a report from DigiTimes, it seems that Apple could be looking to up their game when it comes to image stabilization on future iPhones, in particular, the 2020 model. The report claims that Apple might include a more advanced image stabilization component in the iPhone that comes in the form of a sensor shift feature.

With the iPhone, Apple uses optical image stabilization in which it component shifts around the lens elements to compensate for movement. With sensor shift stabilization, the actual sensor itself moves inside the camera module directly. It is unclear which of these two might result in better quality images or photos, but it will be a change in pace.

As 9to5Mac points out, there is a chance that maybe Apple could be looking to change up its image stabilization feature either due to space or cost, so it might not necessarily be an improvement (it could have the same results, just achieved in a different way). Take it with a grain of salt, but we should have more details moving into 2020.
