The title of this news might sound misleading but that is how YouTube’s new terms of service appear to be.
With its latest update to the terms and conditions, it has got all the content creators confused with something specific.
Under the section for “Account Suspension & Termination“, a controversial statement has been added:
“YouTube may terminate your access, or your Google account’s access to all or part of the Service if YouTube believes, in its sole discretion, that provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable.”
In this statement, it looks like YouTube could just delete your YouTube account/channel if you are not “commercially” profitable for their platform.
We cannot be too sure what it means, but the keyword “commercially” does not necessarily point to restriction for people who promote hate speech or violent content.
Also, it is tough to guess the factors to be considered by YouTube to decide whether a channel (or Google account in general) is “commercially viable”.
In response to 9to5Google’s news coverage to the same story, a spokesperson mentioned that everything is just the way it was and the update to terms of service ensures that it is easier to understand than ever.
Even though the official response might be promising, it is surely a debatable statement that has got all the content creators alarmed.
We shall keep this story updated if there’s an official response to it to address the concerns by aspiring (and already established) content creators on YouTube.
