Throughout gaming history, there have been many fighting games that have been released. Some of them have gone on to become classics, some of them have just faded into obscurity. There have been a handful of franchises that have endured over the years, and one of them is Nintendo’s Super Smash series.
In fact, according to the latest figures, it appears that the latest title in the franchise, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has managed to nab the honor and title of being the best-selling fighting game of all time. The game has managed to sell 15.71 million copies to date which is extremely impressive when you consider several things.
For starters, the units sold is not a combination of different versions created for different consoles, but rather, it is entirely sold on the Nintendo Switch. Secondly, it managed to achieve this in less than a year, where the game was initially released on the 7th of December, 2018. Lastly, it managed to beat Capcom’s Street Fighter II title which has held onto the number one spot for the longest time ever.
We imagine that the game will continue to sell really well, given the frequent updates and also how Nintendo also recently launched the Switch Lite, giving gamers yet another platform to play the game on.
