It seems that if you walk past a Salvation Army volunteer with the red kettle, you’ll actually be able to donate to it using mobile payment methods such as Apple Pay or Google Pay. This means that no longer will you have the excuse of not having enough change on your person to make a donation.
This is not exactly a new idea as the Salvation Army had previously tested it out last year, where the idea is that it is hoped that the modern approach of donating will appeal to the younger crowd. While it wasn’t exactly the runaway success that they were hoping for, we suppose having more options is not a bad thing.
In the meantime, the Salvation Army is not alone in trying to use mobile payments to elicit donations. Just last year, we had heard that the Church of Englandhad also started to accept mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay for donations.
