In fact, it seems that there is a good chance that Qualcomm could have even confirmed the rumors themselves. During the company’s earnings call, Qualcomm’s CFO Akash Palkhiwala said that there would be “two inflection points” for 5G chips in 2020. The first would be in the spring, where we expect that companies like Samsung will be using Qualcomm’s 5G modems for its flagship phones.
Palkhiwala then goes on to say, “The second inflection point will be in the fall time frame, when another set of flagship devices will adopt 5G.” He does not explicitly mention which phones that will be, but given that Apple generally chooses fall to launch their iPhones, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was referring to that.
It is also possible that his comments could be covering other devices like Google’s Pixel phones which also launch around that time, and also Samsung’s Galaxy Note series, so this is just speculation for now.
