There were rumors that come BlizzCon 2019, Blizzard would finally take the wraps off Diablo IV, a game that many thought would be announced last year but was not. Sure enough, the rumors were true because Diablo IV has since been officially announced at the developer’s annual gaming event.
According to the rumors, Blizzard would be returning to its dark and horror roots with Diablo IV and adopt a darker and grittier look. From what we can tell from the gameplay trailer and the cinematic trailer, it looks like Blizzard has done just that. While Diablo 3 was well-received, many did not seem to like the cartoony look that the game brought to the table, with some missing the darker themes from the original Diablo and Diablo 2.
In Diablo IV, it seems that the new main villain would be Lilith, also known as the Daughter of Hatred. We’re not sure if we will encounter Diablo again, but it definitely looks like Blizzard is setting Lilith up to be the main antagonist of the game. Blizzard also announced three playable classes – a barbarian, mage, and druid, although we imagine that there will probably be more that will be revealed later.
There is no word on when the game will be announced, but given Blizzard’s reputation, don’t expect it anytime soon as it will most likely be released in 2020 at the earliest. It will be launched for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with no mention of the Nintendo Switch.
