Some Developers Are Worried That Google Could One Day Kill Stadia

Over the years, Google has launched many products and services. Some have gone on to become staples in our everyday lives, such as Google Search and Gmail, while others have fallen by the wayside. This is normal since it doesn’t make sense for any company to continue investing time and resources into a product or service that simply isn’t profitable.

This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that there are some Google Stadia developers who are a bit nervous about the upcoming service, where they have  expressed their concern that Google could kill off Stadia one day. One of those developers, Gwen Frey, told GamesIndustry.biz that this is a legitimate concern she has.

According to Frey, “The biggest complaint most developers have with Stadia is the fear that Google is just going to cancel it. Nobody ever says, ‘Oh, it’s not going to work,’ or ‘Streaming isn’t the future.’ Everyone accepts that streaming is pretty much inevitable. The biggest concern with Stadia is that it might not exist.”

Interestingly enough, Google understands the skepticism behind it and has actually addressed it in the past. Stadia Director of Product Andrey Doronichev was previously quoted as saying, “Nothing in life is certain, but we’re committed to making Stadia a success… Of course, it’s OK to doubt my words. There’s nothing I can say now to make you believe if you don’t. But what we can do is to launch the service and continue investing in it for years to come.”
