It looks like Tesla could be headed in that direction because according to a report from Electric Autonomy, it seems that the company might have quietly acquired a company that specializes in automated battery manufacturer for electrified vehicles (amongst other things), hinting that maybe Tesla could soon want to start producing its own batteries for their cars.
What’s interesting is that this is actually not Tesla’s first acquisition that hints at the company’s own electric car battery plans. Previously, Tesla had acquired a company by the name of Maxwell that specializes in developing lithium-ion electrodes, so this latest acquisition suggests that the company is getting more serious and aggressive with their plans.
So far the batteries on electric cars is one of its weaknesses, where range is still a factor that customers are considering before buying an electric car.
