However, following the PS5, could the PS6 be next? And following that, the PS7? Maybe, maybe, but to be safe, Sony has filed trademarks for multiple PlayStations which includes the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, and the PS10. Now, this does not necessarily guarantee that we will see all these consoles, but rather it’s just Sony’s way of protecting their PlayStation branding.
Sony has actually been rather aggressive with their trademarks, where starting with the PS4, the trademark was filed back in 2006, a good seven years before its release. The PS5 name was actually also trademarked back in 2006, where it will now be released in 2020, so it’s not surprising that the company has filed for the PS10’s trademark, even if it means that it is, in theory, about 20-30 years away based on the current lifecycle.
That being said, it will be interesting to see if we will ever see the PS10. This is because the gaming landscape is changing, where we’re starting to see an increase in game streaming, and with faster internet like with 5G, dedicated consoles may no longer be necessary in the future. Either way, it’s definitely way too early to tell, but Sony seems to be readying themselves all the same.
