Pixel 4 Will Not Come With Unlimited Google Photos ‘Original Quality’ Photo Backups

One of the selling points of Google’s Pixel smartphones was that it came with free unlimited storage on Google Photos. Google Photos already offers free unlimited storage, but it caps it at a certain resolution, but with Pixel phones, Google offers free unlimited original quality photo backups. This means that you get to store your photos at full resolution for free.

However, it seems that with the newly announced Pixel 4 smartphones, Google might have dropped that offer for good. This is according to a discovery on the Google Store listing in which it says that there will be unlimited storage for “High” quality  photos. “Never worry about storing, finding, or sharing your memories thanks to unlimited storage in high quality on Google Photos.”

For those unfamiliar, Google Photos offers two tiers of storage: High and Original Quality. High means that photos will be capped at a certain resolution, while Original Quality, as its name suggests, will let users upload photos at its full resolution. By offering “High” quality storage, it doesn’t make it any different from a non-Pixel user who is using Google Photos as their backup.

It is a bit disappointing and we’re not sure why Google has decided to kill off that offer, but it’s something to take note of in case you are planning on buying the phone and are expecting the same offer.
