At the start of the year, IKEA launched a set of smart blinds for Europe. The smart blinds were also planned for a launch in the US and was initially targeted for February, but was later delayed to August before being pushed back to October. If you were hoping to get your hands on it this month, you’ll be disappointed to learn that will not be happening.
According to a report from The Verge, an IKEA spokesperson has confirmed to the publication that the company’s smart blinds have been delayed yet again. There is no new date that we can look forward to, instead it seems that it will only be coming “later this year”. Given that we’re now in October, IKEA has pretty much the next 2-3 months before the year ends.
We’re not sure why the smart blinds have been continuously delayed. Given that they’re already being sold in Europe, we imagine that they work just fine so it’s not necessarily a development issue. Perhaps it could some regulatory issues, but either way with IKEA keeping mum on the reason behind the delay, it’s really anyone’s guess.
As to why everyone seems to be so excited for it, it is because there aren’t that many smart blinds in the market today. Plus IKEA’s offerings are said to be more affordable than the readily available models, so that’s something to look forward to.
