Firmware Update Is Bricking Some Google Home, Home Mini Devices

If you own a Google Home or Google Home Mini device, you might want to look into whether or not you can halt automatic firmware updates. This is because according to a series of reports, it seems that the latest firmware update being pushed out to these devices is bricking them, and it also seems that Google is of no help.

This issue has been going on for a while now where many Google Home and Home Mini owners have been reporting that they are discovering their smart speakers bricked. It shows all four LEDs turned on and unresponsive. In some cases, some users have had some luck resetting it by unplugging and replugging their speakers.

However, at the same time, there have been some users who have not been so lucky and that even going as far as a factory reset doesn’t seem to solve their problem. To make things worse, some users are even complaining that Google is not replacing the bricked devices when they are outside their warranty, even if it seems that there is a good chance it could be their fault.

A Google community specialist wrote in the forums that “the team is working on this issue and checking the root cause since not all Google Home devices are affected.” However, this message was dated on the 28th of September and there doesn’t seem to any resolution.
