Now in a new report from Bloomberg, it seems that Google could be looking to clamp down on employee dissent. This comes in the form of a new internal tool that will apparently report employees who schedule a calendar event with more than 10 rooms or 100 employees, suggesting that Google is trying to stay ahead of potential protests.
However, Google has since denied those accusations, calling it “categorically false”. In a statement made to refute these allegations, Google was quoted as saying, “This is a pop-up reminder that asks people to be mindful before auto-adding a meeting to the calendars of large numbers of employees.”
Google also claims that this tool was created to help cut down on spam associated with calendars and events, and that the extension does not collect personally identifiable information about its users. They also said that the extension has been vetted and has gone through the standard privacy, security, and legal reviews process.
