Unlike Activision’s Call of Duty, EA’s Battlefield series isn’t necessarily released on an annual basis. For example, Battlefield V was released back in 2018 and in 2019, there were no new titles announced. However, if you were hoping that EA might announce a new Battlefield title next year, prepare to be disappointed.
This is because during EA’s Q2 fiscal 2020 earnings call, the publisher has confirmed that they will not be releasing a new Battlefield game next year, and that if gamers were hoping for a new Battlefield title, they will have to wait until the fiscal year of 2022. This means that we are looking at a launch between April 2021 and March 2022, which is actually a rather long time away.
Instead, EA will be relying on Respawn’s Apex Legends to be the company’s primary shooter game, where they are also expected to expand on it. It was also recently revealed that Apex Legends has managed to rack up 70 million players to date, so it is clearly doing very well and it’s not surprising that EA will want to focus on it.

Also, given how closely competitive Call of Duty and Battlefield are, EA choosing to focus on another game would give them a greater chance, although it also means that they would be ceding market share to Activision’s Call of Duty.
