Every year without fail, Activision releases a new Call of Duty title. You would think that by now, gamers would get sick of the franchise, but if anything, it seems that gamers are more into the game than ever. This is according to the latest figures for the game in which in the first 3 days of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare going on sale, it has managed to rack up $600 million in revenue.
This is impressive already, but to make it even more impressive, Modern Warfare is the best-selling Call of Duty title ever. To give you some context, Black Ops 4 made $500 million in the first 3 days, WWII made $500 million, Black Ops 3 made $550 million, Black Ops 2 made $500 million, Modern Warfare 3 made $400 million, and Black Ops made $360 million.
Like we said, you would think that gamers would get tired of the franchise by now, but these numbers are suggesting that gamers still love the franchise, more so than ever. It has also been noted that there aren’t many games that make $600 million in the first 3 days. Other titles that have earned this honor include Red Dead Redemption 2 which made $725 million, while GTA 5 made $1 billion.
How does this compare to other COD launches in first 3 days?
Black Ops 4: $500m
WW2: $500m
IW: Shhh, never existed
Black Ops 3: $550m
Advanced Warfare: No number for 3 days
Ghosts: No number for 3 days
Black Ops 2: $500m (1 day)
MW3: $400m (1 day)
Black Ops: $360m (1 day)— Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX) October 30, 2019
We imagine that Modern Warfare will continue to rake in the cash for Activision throughout its lifetime. In the meantime, Call of Duty’s direct competitor Battlefield seems to be taking a break, where the next Battlefield title will most likely only be arriving between 2021 and 2022.
