However, it turns out that 2020 could be the year Apple changes everything. According to well-connected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that next year will see Apple change the naming scheme and call the 2020 iPhone the iPhone 12. This has some pretty big implications and it seems to tie-in with what we’ve learnt about in earlier reports.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the way Apple releases its iPhones, typically there will be one new model that sports a brand new design, and the following year, there will an “S” model that will feature improved specs, new features, but will retain the same design. With Apple possible naming next year’s iPhone as the iPhone 12, it corroborates Kuo’s earlier report that next year’s iPhone could come with a new look, where it might borrow some design elements from the iPhone 4.
Alternatively, we could simply be reading too much into this and that it could just be a change in name. Either way, it’s probably too early to tell so take it with a grain of salt for now.
