The company and Korean telco SK Telecom have announced a partnership in which both companies will be working together to develop an 8K 5G-capable TV. According to the carrier, “The two companies have also agreed to jointly evolve 5G-8K TV further to deliver a new user experience by working together in the areas including eSpace, SK Telecom’s hyper-space platform for replicating the real world in cyberspace, and 5G Sero TV, a 5G-based television that can be rotated both horizontally and vertically to provide a smartphone-like UX for TV users.”
The company’s CTO Park Jin-hyo adds, “The 5G-8K TV is the culmination of ultra-low latency 5G networks combined with ultra-high definition TV technology. 5G technology will help make the world of hyper media a reality.” The concept of 5G being used as more than just internet for our phones isn’t new.
Companies such as Verizon and Disney have teamed up in the past to explore how 5G can be used for entertainment purposes. Some companies are also looking into replacing WiFi with 5G as it offers better coverage.
