For a while now, OnePlus has been teasing that they were working on a smart TV. Given that OnePlus’ portfolio largely consists of smartphones, it was an indication that the company was looking to expand beyond just handsets. For those who are curious about the TV, you’ll be pleased to learn that the OnePlus TV has been officially announced.
Prior to the official launch, OnePlus had actually been steadily teasing bits of information about the device, such as its 55-inch 4K display. According to OnePlus, the TV will feature a high color range of NTSC 120%, along with both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support. OnePlus TV will also feature a Gamma Color Magic chipset that will help with picture processing and rendering.
As for the speaker front, the OnePlus TV will come with a 50W 8-speaker setup which consists of 4 full-range front-facing speakers, 2 front-facing tweeters, and 2 rear-facing subwoofers. We can’t speak to the audio quality of the TV, but it does sound like it could be promising. On the software front, as previously confirmed, the OnePlus TV will be powered by Android TV with a custom UI.
For those wondering about the price, there will be two models to choose from: the OnePlus TV Q1 and the Q1 Pro, with the former priced at around $987, while the latter will retail for $1,411. The TVs will be initially launched in India but there is no word on whether it will find its way stateside.
