Apple’s iPhone 11 Could Have Reverse Wireless Charging, But Disabled In Software

One of the features that we’re seeing more handset makers introduce to their phones is reverse wireless charging, where the phones themselves offer wireless charging capabilities which can charge other devices, like another smartphone or wireless earbuds. This is a feature that had been rumored to find its way to the iPhone 11 lineup.

However, at Apple’s event where the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max were announced, the feature was missing from the list. This seemed to corroborate some very last minute rumors that revealed that Apple might not announce it. Could it be that the earlier rumors were wrong all this while?

According to famed insider Sonny Dickson, yes and no. In a tweet by Dickson, he claims that based on what his sources have told him, Apple’s new iPhones do support reverse wireless charging, and that the hardware is actually present in phones. However, it seems that it has been disabled in the software.

However, he notes that it is unclear if the hardware could potentially be removed ahead of the final production. We suppose if we want to be certain, we’ll have to wait for the folks at iFixit to do their customary teardowns. It is also not clear why Apple decided to pull the feature at the very last minute, but perhaps it wasn’t up to scratch yet.
