Huawei has always retained a firm stance regarding bootloader unlocking, but with the Mate 30, Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu actually stated that they would be relaxing their policies regarding bootloader unlocking. However, Huawei has since clarified to Android Authority that they have no plans to unlock the bootloader on the phone.
So, why does this matter? By unlocking the bootloader, it allows users to load and install custom firmware on the device, which in theory would allow users to load Google Play services on the phone. However, now that the bootloader will not be unlocked by Huawei, that’s pretty much a no-go, at least in an official capacity.
Perhaps Android developers will be able to find a way around it, but for now, you’ll just have to love the Huawei Mate 30 series as it is, without Google’s services. We’re not sure if the company will have a change of heart in the future, but for now, it’s probably best not to get your hopes up.
