Boston Dynamics, which is a robotics company is finally ready to take orders for its dog-like robot ‘Spot’. It will cost you less than the price of a car (but it will still be expensive for the consumers), as reported by IEEE Spectrum.
You can just head right into their official product page and submit a request to take one for lease.
Even though the price does not attract general consumers, it targets the construction industry where it may be used to speed things up in one way or another.
If it matters, ‘Spot’ is quite popular on YouTube with millions of viewers excited about it.
You can learn more about it in the launch video:
It may not be something that an individual would want right now – however, with the increase in demand, the price will settle down as an attractive purchase for general consumers.
Also, some do think of it as a nightmare to have. Of course, to some, this will look like a killer robot (or assigned to any military task). Although, every improvement in robotics is a step towards making “Skynet” a reality – not just fiction.
Maybe, we are just being paranoid. But, that is not the point.
For now, the dog-like robot ‘Spot’ has only one purpose i.e to be a useful robot in the construction industry or oil/gas industry to take risks where humans cannot.
In addition to this, it will be pretty useful for public safety and monitoring as well.
It may not be practical enough with that kind of price range but looks like it is worth a shot for companies looking to add robots in their workforce.
IEEE Spectrum has laid down all the necessary details on the price, API, and some other factors as part of their complete report. You can check it out if you are curious.
