While some doctors are cautioning users against the Apple Watch’s ECG feature and not to read too much into its readings, it seems that it might not be a bad idea to follow up with a doctor if you get some weird readings. This is because in a report from FOX10, a woman in Alabama by the name of Anne Rowe has attributed the Apple Watch to saving her life.
According to the report, Rowe had experienced shortness of breath while walking around her home, but as she is an asthmatic, she dismissed it as just part of the illness. However, when she decided to check her heart using the Apple Watch’s ECG feature, it detected that she had an irregular heartbeat.
Rowe initially did want buy into the readings, but the subsequent readings were pretty consistent with before, which she then decided that it might be a good idea to pay her doctor a visit. She was then sent to the hospital in which the hospital’s equipment revealed similar results. Rowe underwent mitral valve replacement through an open heart surgery, which helped reduce the risk of her getting a stroke. She has since credited her Apple Watch with saving her life.
This is not the first time we’re hearing about the Apple Watch’s ECG feature saving lives, and we expect this to continue. Apple is said to be working on new features for future Apple Watch devices, where a recent patent suggested that the company was exploring the idea of putting in metal oxide sensors which can detect the air quality around us.
