When Philips first entered into the smart lighting game, they only had the Hue bulb. The problem with that bulb is that it is a screw in bulb meaning that it is a bit limited in terms of style and placement. Philips has since expanded their offerings over time, and it looks like we might have some new options to look forward to.
Thanks to a series of photos obtained and published on German website Smart Lights, it looks like Philips has a couple of new smart lights in the works called Fugato and Centura. As you can see from the photo, these are not your typical Philips Hue smart bulbs. Instead, with the Fugato, it looks like Philips will be going for a spotlight kind of design, while the Centura will be aiming for a downlight design.
This means that if you’re looking to furnish your home with smart lights, you will have more options to choose from besides bulbs. The report goes on to add that with the Fugato series of smart lights, Philips has given it Bluetooth connectivity. This means that if you plan on buying it, you won’t need to get the standalone hub to control it with your smartphone.
There is no word on pricing and availability, but with IFA 2019 coming up, perhaps Philips might have some news to share then, so check back with us during the event for more updates.
