Lenovo has announced that many of its laptops are getting the new 10th-generation Core i5 and Core i7 Intel processors. The change is internal, so the chassis and ports stay mostly the same, even though the X1 Carbon is getting a 400 NIT 1080p display option.
Keep in mind that Intel’s new accompanying platform also offers Wi-Fi 6, which is one of the most exciting Wi-Fi updates in the past few years.
The updated ThinkPad X1 2109 is the “tip of the spear” for Lenovo’s ThinkPad line of products, and it’s no surprise that the X1 Carbon gets the fanciest edition of the new Intel Core i7 with the Athena label, which certifies a level of responsiveness, battery life, connectivity, and form-factor.
In the best-case scenario (1080p FHD display), the updated ThinkPad X1 Carbon is said to go from ~14hrs of battery life to ~18hrs, which is a substantial jump.
These laptops are business workhorses that come with plenty of ports and are also tough as nails. They too are Intel Gen10 ready, with Core i5 and Core i7 (4-cores maximum).
Just like the X1 Carbon and the X1 Yoga, the 490 and X390 can also come with an integrated 4G LTE modem, which works much better than using a portable WiFi access point.
The more affordable ThinkPad can also be ordered with the Intel Gen10 processors (in September) but continues to be configurable at purchase time with a variety of CPU options. That is without a doubt so that Lenovo can serve a broader market with a flexible price range.
Unlike the others in this list, these computers are also getting a display upgrade with visibly thinner bezels and more changes across the design.
