According to a report from South Korea, the word on the street has it that Apple could be planning on using the same OLED materials used to build the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy Note 10’s display. Previously, Apple had apparently used its own distinct set of materials, presumably to make their displays look different from the competition, but apparently Apple might be doing away with that.
It is unclear why Apple could be using the same set of materials as Samsung, but perhaps it could be a cost-saving measure. Apple’s iPhones have not been selling quite as well as the company would have liked, and last we heard, Apple had to pay Samsung a “fine” for allegedly missing their OLED purchase targets.
It is possible that a non-custom blend of materials could be cheaper and so Apple could be going with that. This means that in theory, the next-gen iPhones could have displays similar in quality and appearance as Samsung’s 2019 flagship phones, which might not necessarily be a bad thing.
