After all, there aren’t that many mainstream and obvious desserts starting with the letter “Q”, right? Turns out, for Android 10, Google has decided that they will be marking the end of an era by dropping the use of dessert names completely, and where 2019’s version of Android will simply be known as Android 10.
According to Google, part of this has to do with the pronunciation of the different names of Android, where the company claims to have gotten feedback on that front. They also claim that it can sometimes be hard to tell which version precedes or succeeds a version unless you’ve been following Android for a while and have been keeping up with the news.
Google also notes, “As a global operating system, it’s important that these names are clear and relatable for everyone in the world. So, this next release of Android will simply use the version number and be called Android 10. We think this change helps make release names simpler and more intuitive for our global community.” So, is anyone going to miss the dessert names Google uses for Android?
