At the moment the digital assistant has no name, but according to the BBC, the current working title is “Beeb”, but we expect that to change upon launch. The organization is currently asking staff around the UK to come and record their voices in a bid to help the digital assistant better understand the various British accents.
It is interesting that the BBC wants to get in on the digital assistant game. This is because the competition is so fierce at the moment where even big tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung are having a hard time getting a slice of that pie. In fact, thanks to cheap smart speakers like the Google Home Mini and the Amazon Echo Dot, Google Assistant and Alexa are currently dominating the market.
Perhaps it could end up just being a regional thing, where it could prove popular in the UK, but either way we’ll have to wait until 2020 which is when the BBC is targeting the launch of their digital assistant.
