Uber has been working on micromobility solutions as well with scooters and bikes. The company today announced that it’s now integrating micromobility into its core services. Not only will Uber’s app show bikes and scooters from JUMP but from Lime as well in the main app. This is the first time that Uber has displayed a third-party’s services so prominently in its own app.
This is being done on a limited scale, though, with users seeing the bikes and scooters when they launch the main app in Atlanta and San Diego. The app will prominently display Lime’s offerings as well. This comes a year after Uber and Lime officially announced a partnership which saw Lime adding Uber branding to its scooters in the aforementioned cities.
If Uber finds that the initial test in these cities has gone well, it’s going to expand this to more cities where bikes and scooters are available. The company has seen considerable interest from users for its micromobility services.
Uber itself pointed out that one in five of all tripes are under a mile and nearly half of them are under three miles. Electric bikes and scooters are a good option to cover such short distances, particularly during rush hour.
