According to a recently-discovered patent, it seems that Samsung is toying around with the idea of creating a pair of foldable augmented reality-based glasses. For the most part, the design of the glasses looks like any regular pair of glasses, but it is expected to be a foldable pair of glasses where when it is unfolded, it would automatically switch on.
This means that in theory, you could fold it up into a smaller footprint for storage, so if you don’t want to wear it all the time, you could fold it up, put it into a box or your pocket until you’re ready. The patent also describes how the glasses will pack a projector that is mounted onto the temple. This projector would be used to beam images to the wearer’s field of view.
Samsung has dabbled in wearables before like with the Gear VR, but if this patent ever becomes a reality, it could be their first smart glasses. Apple has also been rumored to be working on something similar in the past, although recently the company has been reported to have hit the pause button on their project.
