Samsung does have the advantage of being the biggest smartphone maker in the world, so they do have the user base, and they’re hoping that a recent decision could help expand on Bixby’s adoption. The company has announced the launch of the Bixby marketplace, in which users will be able to download “Bixby capsules” which you could liken to Amazon’s Alexa skills.
According to Samsung, “The Bixby Marketplace takes these customized experiences to the next level by offering easy access to a wide range of capsules that make Bixby more powerful, making it easier for users to tailor Bixby to suit their needs. The Marketplace includes a variety of convenience-enhancing capsules such as Google Maps, Spotify, iHeartRadio, NPR, Yelp and more.”
Users will be able to search for a variety of skills to suit their needs, which should make it easier for users to figure out what exactly Bixby can do for them, especially if they’re not so tech savvy. At the moment, Bixby marketplace will only be available in both the US and Korea, but we imagine that over time the company will expand on its availability.
