Nintendo Switch With Upgraded Hardware Revealed In FCC Filing

Earlier today, the Nintendo Switch Lite was officially announced as the more affordable and more portable version of the Nintendo Switch. However, if you might recall, there were rumors suggesting that there could also be an upgraded version of the Switch in the works as well, and now it looks like there is a chance those rumors could be coming true.

In a recent FCC filing, it was discovered that Nintendo had filed for a “Request for Class II Permissive Change” letter. What this means is that Nintendo is asking for permission to make changes to an existing device without having to get the whole thing recertified again. Based on the letter, it seems that Nintendo has outlined the changes which includes the chipset used, the RAM, and also the CPU board.

This is in line with rumors that we have heard, in which Nintendo could be potentially upgrading the Switch to use an upgraded version of NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 chipset. We’re not sure how much more RAM the company plans to add to the new Switch model, so that remains to be seen. Now, before you get too excited, we should note that these changes do not necessarily mean a new and upgraded console.

It is entirely possible that Nintendo could be requesting these changes because they plan on switching to cheaper components in a bid to cut costs, although as we said, there have been rumors about an upgraded Switch model which are a bit hard to ignore. Either way, try not to get your hopes up just yet, but check back with us soon for more updates.
