So with the launch of the Switch Lite, which was smaller, lighter, and more portable, was this Nintendo’s subtle way of telling us that they plan on replacing the 3DS? The good news for 3DS gamers and fans is that no, it looks like the 3DS will be sticking around. According to Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser, “We’ll continue to support our 3DS family of systems as long as there is demand.”
It is a bit odd that Nintendo is still holding onto the 3DS even though there haven’t really been any new releases for the console in recent times. It is also clear that Nintendo is shifting more focus towards their Switch consoles, where they have announced a bunch of games, including a brand new Pokemon RPG.
However, we suppose we’ll have to wait and see how well the Switch Lite does before any decisions are made. At $199, it is more affordable than the regular version of the Switch which could encourage more gamers to adopt it.
