Lyft To Add Bus And Subway Directions For NYC In Its App

Lyft wants people in New York City to be hooked to its app which is why the ride-hailing service has decided to add NYC subway and bus directions to its app. It will take a couple of weeks for the roll out of transit directions in the app for NYC to complete.

Once this roll out is completed, the Lyft app will be able to show users bus stops, subway stations, and even docks for Citi Bike. That’s a bikeshare system owned by Lyft which already allows users to reserve and pay for Citi Bike using its app.

The idea here is to keep users within the Lyft app and eliminate the need for them to switch to another app if they want directions for public transportation options. Bloomberg reports that the updated app should be out for all users in New York by the end of September this year.

Aside from information about the bus and subway, Lyft users will also be able to view commuter rail options like the Metro North, Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, and more. Users will only be able to view directions from the Lyft app, though, as it won’t let them purchase any tickets.
