Lord of the Rings fans will be interested to know that a new MMO or massively multiplayer online game is being developed based on this iconic franchise. Amazon Game Studios has confirmed that it’s developing a Lord of the Rings MMO in collaboration with Leyou. This will be a free to play title which will be available for both consoles and PC.
Leyou-owned Athlon Games had actually announced this title last year but it had said at that time that the work was underway with a “partner developer” which wasn’t name. It has only been revealed today that the partner developer for this MMO is Amazon Game Studios.
As per the earlier announcement, the Lord of the Rings MMO is going to be set at a time long before the events of The Lord of the Rings, exploring lands, people and creatures never seen before by fans of the Tolkien universe.” This sounds a lot like the new Lord of the Rings TV series that Amazon has been working on.
The series is also set a long time before the main series that fans of the franchise know and love. Amazon does point out that both the show and the game are being developed separately and that there’s no relation between the two. It hasn’t said when this MMO is expected to arrive.
