The companies that are absolutely killing it in the smartphone camera area at the moment would be Samsung and Huawei, both of whom have come up with some truly impressive cameras on their smartphones. However, it seems that in the future, we could get another competitor in the form of Xiaomi.
Xiaomi’s smartphones have proven to be pretty good and come with a ton of amazing features, but the company is hoping to improve on its cameras because they have recently decided to open up a new company over in Tampere, Finland. Why does this matter, you ask? This is because Tampere is home to many companies that excel in camera technology, largely thanks to Nokia whose own research center has been established there for years.
In addition to Nokia, Huawei had also previously opened up their own research center there, which presumably resulted in some of the amazing camera tech and features we’ve been seeing in some of their more recent handsets. Xiaomi’s new research center is expected to focus on product development, but it is also expected that they will begin with camera technologies.
Exactly what will result from their new research center remains to be seen, but if you’re a fan of Xiaomi’s smartphones and would love to see an improvement in the camera department, this could be the start of something promising.
