A recent report from French media outlet Cowcotland had claimed that AMD’s Radeon VII graphics card had reached its End of Life status. This would mean the company will no longer be producing the Radeon VII. AMD has responded to the claim but it’s a rather cryptic response which doesn’t say clearly whether or not this graphics card will continue to be produced.
The Radeon VII was a special product for the company has it allowed AMD to showcase that it could bring a 7nm graphics card to the market. However, the gaming community didn’t really pick it up with much zeal. Since the arrival of the Radeon RX 5700 XT, it would now make more sense for AMD to focus on this GPU instead of the Radeon VII.
Its $699 price is considerably higher than the 5700 XT’s $399 even though it lags behind the Radeon VII by an average of just 3.8 percent. That price differential is enough to inform many customers’ buying preferences.
When asked for a clarification on the matter by Tom’s Hardware, AMD’s response was that “We continue to see strong availability of Radeon VII in the channel for both gamers and creators.” That absolutely tells us nothing about the company’s plans for this GPU, whether it has indeed reached the End of Life status or if we can expect AMD to continue producing it for the foreseeable future.
