It is largely expected that Face ID would continue to be the de facto security method used in iPhones moving forwards, but according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, that will not be the case. According to a new report from Kuo, he claims that Apple will keep using Face ID until 2021, after which the company is expected to switch back to Touch ID, except that this time, Touch ID will be placed under the display of the iPhone.
It’s odd that Apple would switch back to Touch ID after how much they’ve marketed and boasted about its Face ID tech, but we have to say that fingerprint ID is still a lot more convenient compared to having to look at the screen all the time. So far companies such as Samsung and OnePlus have introduced in-display fingerprint sensors to their phones, so it’s not as if the tech isn’t already available, so it is unclear why Apple is taking this long.
We have heard rumors that Apple could still be working on Touch ID, with patents corroborating the company’s continued interest. So far, Apple has continued to keep its Touch ID tech around, where these days it can mostly be found in the company’s newer MacBook laptops.
