Apple Doesn’t Micromanage Content For Its Original Shows, Says Eddy Cue

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services, is the company’s point person for its Apple TV+ streaming service. This would be the first time that Apple would create content itself, much in the way that a company like Netflix does, and then make it available to consumers directly through a proprietary platform. As regards Apple’s control over the content, Cue has said that Apple isn’t dictating content restrictions for its original shows.

Apple has roped in some big names to create original shows for Apple TV+. It revealed at the March event that new shows from the likes of Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams are incoming. Other projects have some A-list star power in the form of Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Reese Witherspoon, and even Oprah.

It was reported a while back that Cue and Apple CEO Tim Cook were making set visits to make sure that creators weren’t stepping over the line, that shows weren’t too violent or dark instead of being more family-friendly.

In an interview with GQ UK, Cue clarified that “There’s never been one note passed from us on scripts, that I can assure you.” He added that the creators are left alone to do what they do best. When pressed on whether Apple’s higher-ups had ever handed down notes to products, Cue reiterated that “I can assure you that [the report] was 100 percent false.”
