YouTube’s algorithms are quick to learn your interests and recommend channels and videos for your Homepage and Up Next sections. However, only you truly know what you want to watch, and sometimes the algorithms aren’t a 100 percent in their suggestions. That’s why YouTube today announced that it will now provide you with more control over your Homepage and Up Next videos.
YouTube is providing users with more controls for suggestions from the algorithm. It has made it simpler for you to tell YouTube to stop suggesting videos from a particular channel. All you need to do is tap on the three-dot menu next to a video on the Homepage or Up Next and then select “Don’t recommend channel.”
Once you do that, you will no longer see videos from that channel being suggested to you. They will come up if you search for them, subscribe to the channel, visit the channel page or the trending tab. This feature is now available globally on YouTube for iOS and Android. It will be available on the desktop soon.
YouTube also recommends videos from channels sometimes that you haven’t seen before. This is done based on what other viewers with similar interests to you have liked and watched. YouTube will now provide more information underneath such videos in a small box so that you know just why you’re being suggested a particular video.
