T-Mobile Launches 5G Service On June 28th

T-Mobile is joining its rivals in launching its 5G network in the United States. The carrier confirmed today that its new 5G network will enter service from Friday, June 28th. The service will be extremely limited initially as it will only be available in parts of six cities. It will no doubt increase in the coming months.

Parts of Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and New York City will have access to T-Mobile’s millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum-based 5G network from June 28th. The carrier also cautions that the service will reliably work outdoors only, a limitation that its rivals have as well.

The carrier has also posted a coverage map so that subscribers can easily figure out down to the city blocks where they will be able to get 5G speeds on their compatible device. Speaking of compatible devices, T-Mobile is launching its 5G network with the Galaxy S10 5G. The handset will also be available on the same day the network goes live from select stores in these markets.

T-Mobile has also confirmed that this handset will only have support for the mmWave spectrum so it won’t be compatible with the low and mid-band frequencies through which T-Mobile will expand its 5G service much further.
