Stranger Things has been a hit for Netflix so it makes sense why the company would want to continue to capitalize on this property. The online streaming giant has confirmed that it’s working on a mobile RPG for Stranger Things. It has teamed up with developer Next Games for this project.
Next Games, the developer behind The Walking Dead: Our World, will be making this puzzle/mobile RPG for Netflix. The title itself is going to be location-based and free-to-play. Netflix’s director of interactive games Chris Lee confirmed that the game is going to have Google Maps integration.
Our core focus will be to deliver on Stranger Things’ rich and intense themes like friendship and supernatural adventure, and translate these into snack-sized entertainment on your mobile device,” said Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen.
Players will be fighting the evil forces of The Upside Down with other players. This Stranger Things game is going to have a different art style compared to the other 16 bit style Stranger Things games. The art style will be more like the ’80s Saturday morning cartoons.
It’s going to be a while before this game actually comes out. It’s due for release next year and will be available for both iOS and Android devices.
