It has been a while since NVIDIA has put out new SHIELD hardware, and if you loved the potential that the device had, you might be pleased to learn that NVIDIA could have a new SHIELD TV in the works. This is according to a report from XDA Developers who discovered evidence of a new device in the Google Play Developer Console’s Device Catalog.
How do they know it’s a new SHIELD TV device? This is because the device has the codename “mdarcy” where the previous version was codenamed “darcy”. It has also been revealed that the device has been certified to run Android 9.0 Pie, the latest version of Android (Android Q notwithstanding).
As for its hardware specs, XDA has heard from developers that the device could be running on an upgraded version of its Tegra X1 chipset. It is expected to offer up better power usage and a higher maximum GPU clock speed, and what’s interesting about this rumor is the implications it might have on other products.
As some might know, the Nintendo Switch is powered by the Tegra X1 and if the new NVIDIA SHIELD TV will be powered by an upgraded version of the chipset, it is possible that the rumored Nintendo Switch upgrade could also feature similar hardware. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have more details soon.
